Mothers Day Gift Ideas!

This year Mothers Day is on March 10th. If you're struggling to decide what to buy your Mum (or grandmother/aunt etc) then here is some affordable inspiration for you.

Rimmel Exaggerate Undercover Shadow Primer

When it comes to eye primers, I've never had much success. The best one I've used is Urban Decay's Primer Potion bit its not perfect. I find it can make powder shadows look a little dry. My eyelids are oily so I need to use a primer otherwise any product wears off after a few hours!
The Rimmel exaggerate undercover primer is a fairly new product. Its great to see 'drugstore' brands making primers as there aren't many around.
The primer is a pearlescent white cream that's lighter than UDPP. I'd say the consistency is similar to ELF's mineral primer (original) - not too watery but not too thick either. It takes a few minutes for the primer to dry. I prefer a primer to dry completely before I add shadow.
Does it work? I'm really on the fence! Under MAC paint pots it works really well but when I apply under powder shadow, the shadow ends up fading and wearing off after a few hours.
My eyelids are so oily though that I think this would work better on normal skin tones. I'll keep using this under paint pots but for powders I'll stick to Urban Decay.

The Rimmel shadow primer is currently £3.99 at boots.

Have you tried this or do you have any primers you would recommend?

Primark S/S 2013 Update

I honestly this Primark have upped their game again with the beauties. I love everything!
My favourites would have to be the flat sandals, metallic trench coat and cream studded bag but I would buy all of this if I had the money!

Everyday Makeup!

I usually keep my makeup fairly basic for everyday wear. Unless its a special occasion or I'm going somewhere fancy. For my base I like the Nip and Fab shine fix to help keep my oily t-zone under control followed by one of my favourite foundations is Estee Lauder's double wear light. It gives the coverage I need (unless I'm having a really bad skin day then I'll opt for revlon colorstay) and stays put throughout the day. I usually apply with the real techniques stippling brush or buffing brush from the core collection which gives the perfect finish. Now and again I'll mix my foundation with MAC strobe cream (reviewed here) to give my complexion more of a glow and healthy radiance. To conceal, I love the collection lasting perfection concealer - it covers blemishes, redness and under eye circles! Finally I'll buff in a little rimmel stay matte powder to try and keep my base makeup lasting longer - I really rate this powder, its far better than the clear complexion version, which just doesn't control oil that well.

For cheeks, I've been using Illamasqua's naked rose blush (reviewed here) a lot recently. Its highly pigmented and long lasting. Its a matte blush so I find it perfect for day wear. For a flush of lip colour I'll add a little rose and co cherry kiss lip balm. My lips are on the drier side at this time of year so its great to use a product that will condition as well as adding a hint of colour.

For eyes, I really like using Maybellines brow pencil to define and shape my brows. I think it costs around £3 which is such a bargain. Its really creamy and the brush on the other end really helps. On my lids I always use Urban Decay's primer potion as its the only primer I've found that really works well.
I recently bought the Urban Decay basics palette. UD shadows have awesome pigmentation and are worth every penny. This palette is fab for creating a subtle daytime look.

To finish, I use a touch of brown eyeliner - usually 17 eye pencil and a little mascara. I've been using a laura mercier full blown volume one but benefit bad gal is my all time favourite.

MUA Undress Your Skin Shimmer Highlighter

I'm not sure if I've mentioned my love for highlighters before. I love adding a glow to my skin that is hard to achieve otherwise. I'm always eyeing up new ones that catch my eye. When I saw the new undress your skin  shimmer highlighter I knew I would have to buy it. I liked the shade and the cute design (I get sucked in easy).
When it comes to makeup academy, I'm incredibly late on the bandwagon. I don't know, just none of their products have appealed to me before but for a £2 (soon to be £3) highlighter its a beauty bargain!

Is it any good?well I mentioned the swirly powder design but it looks familiar no?

Yep, it does have a resemblance to MAC'S extra dimension skinfinish but thats where the similarity ends. MAC's highlighter has a metallic sheen and more pigmentation than MUA's which is a luminescent pink shimmer. I think the MUA highlighter is one that will be particularly flattering on cooler skin tones. The powder itself is fairly soft and pigmented. I've worn this throughout the day and its quite subtle. No disco ball here! I get at least 8 hours wear though there is some fading by the end of the day. However for the price, its well worth buying if you're looking for a subtle highlighter that wont break the bank. Its available to buy online and in superdrug.

Sleek Aqua Collection: Lagoon Palette and Mirrored Pink Blush

The other day, I was casually browsing ebay when I noticed the new sleek aqua collection for sale. Officially I don't think its meant to go on sale till March so I bought the shadow palette and blush as I know from the promo images that I definitely wanted to buy them.( I will just add that the seller had a few of these up for sale so I don't think it was a case of someone selling a pr sample).
The lagoon palette contains 12 mineral based shadows - 3 shades are matte. Personally I love the shades in this palette. I tend to steer clear of bright shades but I'm looking to experiment more with my makeup. The shadows are soft and pigmented, though some are better than others. The best performing shades are reflection, oyster, pink jewel, seashell and ariel.
Overall, I think the palette is well worth the money (£7.99) and is ideal for anyone looking to add a few bright shades to their makeup bag.
The blush in the aqua collection is mirrored pink - a gorgeous bright shimmery pink. I love sleek blushes anyway but the pigmentation on this is crazy. Mirrored pink is the type of shade that will suit many skin tones. Despite the pop of pink, its still really wearable!

Makeup Storage Ideas #1

I've been umming and ahhing for a while over what makeup storage to buy. I know the muji storage is extremely popular but I've been trying to look for cheaper alternatives. Plus, I didn't really want acrylic storage. However, I then spotted a bargain acrylic organiser on Amazon and decided to take the plunge.
The Glam cosmetic organiser has space for 12 lipsticks with a large compartment at the front. There are also sections at the back where I've stored pencils, mascara's etc.
Its a really sturdy organiser and doesn't look 'cheap' either. Perfect for storing everyday makeup!
I also bought a little cath kidston tumbler - I think its meant to be a small child but its ideal for storing makeup brushes. I think it cost around £2 in the sale.
I'm still looking for storage for my palettes so if you've got any ideas please let me know!

Orly I Love Nails!Valentines Day Nail Polishes

I will admit to not being a huge fan of valentines day!
I just don't really see why you need a day to tell someone you love them (I'm so cynical!). Nevertheless whether you're single or in a relationship its a good time to treat yourself as there are some super cute products out there
. Orly's I love nails collection comprises four nail polishes perfect for valentines day!
The two I have above are Monroe's Red* and Toast The Couple*
Monroe's Red is a rich classic red with a very subtle shimmer detected in sunlight, whilst Toast The Couple is a frosty nude/champagne pink.
Formula wise, these are perfect! Both polishes only needed one coat to be fully opaque, though I tend to wear with a glossy top coat to increase wear time. The finish of Toast the couple is quite streaky, which is usually the case with frosty and sometimes metallic polishes. Personally, I think this is the sort of polish I would wear under a glitter top coat. Monroes Red on the other had is perfect! Its the shade of polish that will suit most skin tones and I cant fault the formulation at all!

*These can be purchased from Look Fantastic here or here in a mini pack with the two other shades from the collection*

Most Used Products: Jan/Feb 2013

There seem to be a few products that I've been using a lot recently. I've mentioned most of them before but they're so good that they deserve another shout out!
One of my favourite powders is the NYC smooth skin pressed face powder. I have a really oily t-zone so I need to blot my skin a lot. This powder honestly is as good as expensive ones I've used. I think I picked this up for around £2 in superdrug. It controls oil so well and doesn't look cakey either. A definite must have for any oily skinned girl.
A cleanser I've been using a lot is the Shu Uemura oil in gel cleanser (reviewed here). It removes impurities and makes my skin look brighter without feeling harsh.
I've also been loving maybellines color whisper lipstick (reviewed here). I really hope these arrive in the UK as I would definitely buy a few more shades as these are just as good as the revlon lip butters.
In the xmas sales I purchased a Laura Mercier Kit. Part of the set was the laura mercier volume lash building mascara. I love this mascara. My all time favourite mascara is benefit's bad gal lash so I always tend to compare mascaras to this one. Laura mercier's is definitely on par with benefit bad gal. It gives lashes volume and length without smudging or clumping. I love it.
MAC's msf in stereo rose has a lot of hype surrounding it and I can see why (reviewed here) I thinks its sold out online but it may still be available instore. Its generally a product I use in the evening as its a frosty finish and I usually prefer matte/satin finish blushes for day wear.
Illamasqua Naked rose blush is my first illamasqua purchase (reviewed here). I use this blush everyday as not only is it a stunning matte shade but it lasts most of the day and smells gorgeous too!

MUA Undress Me Too Palette: Urban Decay Naked 2 Dupe?

I'm incredibly late on the bandwagon when it comes to the mua shadow palettes.
Their latest offering is the undress me too palette - a possible dupe for the urban decay naked 2 palette perhaps?
I really like the look of the mua palette, especially the bottom row of swatches and for £4 you cant really go wrong.
Its online now and in superdrug stores soon!

What do you think of this palette? yay or nay?

New Maybelline The Lifter Foundation

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind The Lifter Foundation is a new release that I bought from Ebay *here*. It's actually the first Maybelline foundation that I've tried. I ordered ivory but got sent creamy beige, which is far too dark for my skin tone but I decided to test it out even though I look borderline oompa loompa!
The lifter foundation is a primer and foundation in one. Maybelline the lifter claims to instantly firm and lift skin whilst providing coverage.
The bottle has a pump to easily dispense the foundation. I like the 'swirly' packaging (I'm very fickle) even though stila and revlon have products with a similar concept.
The foundation itself is light coverage with a slightly dewy finish. I found it evened my skintone out to create a smooth base. Unfortunately my skin is way too oily for this foundation. After a few hours, my skin looked really shiny, even powder didn't help. Not one I will probably be using again as I prefer my foundation to stay   fairly matte.
I'm not sure when/if this is launching in the UK. I think its a foundation best suited to normal/dry skin tones who don't need a lot of coverage!

Have you tried any Maybelline foundations?

Rimmel Scandaleyes Shadow Stick in Tempting Turquoise & Bad Girl Bronze

Rimmel scandaleyes shadow stick in tempting turquoise and bad girl bronze £5.99

Rimmel are on fire with their new releases. I recently picked up two of their new scandaleyes shadow sticks.
Shadow sticks are a chubby eyeshadow pencil that claim to stay put for 24 hours. I can't say that I've tested them for that amount of time, because lets be honest how many people wear their makeup for 24 hours straight?
The shadow itself is soft, creamy and pigmented. Its very easy to blend and can also be worn as a base or liner. I've worn these with my MAC and urban decay shadows over a primer and found they are long wearing and don't crease. They do need to be sharpened. It would be easier if they twisted up as its less messy.
There are currently only five shades available.  I really like these as the shadow itself is perfect and they're affordable. Big thumbs up!

Shop Happy

Hello! A little sneak peek of what I've been buying lately. I always say 'oooh I'll treat myself' but I think I treat myself far too much haha.
I've also freshened up the blog. My laptop broke last week so I'm currently using my dads, which is super slow!Fingers crossed I will have a few posts written this week and dont forget my urban decay giveaway is still live!
