NYX Round Lipstick: Haute Melon

NYX Haute Melon Lipstick - typically £3.50/$4

Hi Everyone!I hope you're having a great weekend! Today I have one of my favourite new lipsticks to share with you. I'm really into all types of coral shades right now so when I saw this shade I had to have it.
NYX Round Lipstick in Haute Melon is a red/orange toned coral in your typical bullet style tube. I like that you can see the shade of lipstick at the bottom of the tube (little things like this amuse me!). A little google search found this isn't lipstick but a jelly type mould that imitates the shade.
This NYX lipstick doesn't really have a scent. I've read some have a floral scent but as this is the only lipstick from NYX I've tried I cant be sure. Haute Melon is a creamy, semi opaque lipstick. It feels really lightweight on the lips but it does have a tendency to cling to dryness so you need to make sure your lips are moisturised beforehand.

Haute Melon is a really pretty shade that wears well.
I bought mine from Ebay here for £4.99 as this shade is quite hard to find. I really want to try more of these lipsticks. For the price, this one is well worth buying, especially when you compare it to the price of a MAC lippy!

Have you tried any NYX lipsticks?

Macadamia Hair Deep Repair Masque

Hair oils are everywhere right now! Macadamia Hair Oil is one of my favourite products for restoring healthy hair so I've been keen to use other products from the range. The Deep Repair Masque is a thick and creamy conditioning treatment that aims to improve elasticity and shine. Including macadamia and argan oil, the Macadamia Deep Repair Masque is used after shampoo & your regular conditioner and left for around 10 minutes before rinsing.
I only apply this masque to the ends of my hair as they are quite dry, whereas my roots are on the oily side. This is the perfect product for restoring frazzled, lifeless hair back to life. It softens, smooths and adds shine, leaving hair feeling silky and healthy. Split ends are less noticeable and my coloured hair looks brighter. I've used a few hair masques over the year and I would say this is definitely one of the best I've tried as the results are noticeable straight away. It's a must have for anyone whose hair needs a boost!

Antonio Lopez for MAC

So far there is little info about this collection, such as names etc but judging from the images this may be one to save up for. I'm loving the illustrations on the packaging and the pink/purple lip trio looks divine.
These are released in August/September!

Primark LookBook Autumn/Winter 2013

I've been a bit uninspired by blogging this week but if you've read my blog for a while you'll know I'm a massive Primark fan. Its been ages since I had a splurge in there. Seeing these images for autumn/winter (say what?!) makes me look forward to seeing what else is coming up in the next few months! Here are a few of my favourites for a/w 2013.

A Toning Duo: Mario Badescu & Serozinc!

mario badescu glycolic acid toner
la roche-posay serozinc

I've become a little obsessed with skincare lately. I think if your skin looks good it gives you that extra bit of confidence as you can get away with less makeup and it tends to sit better.
I've heard a lot about exfoliating toners so decided to invest in the Mario Badescu glycolic acid toner. It contains 2% glycolic acid and no alcohol, aiming to brighten and improve congested skin. I use the glycolic acid toner 2/3 times a week. It does say you can use twice a day but personally I would find that too much for this type of product. I use it after removing make up and cleansing, applying a little to a cotton wool pad and sweeping over my entire face. After application, it makes my skin feel really tingly so I follow with La roche-posay Serozinc to calm and soothe.
Serozinc is a zinc sulfate solution, suitable for oily problem skin due to its astringent properties. Serozinc isn't available in the UK - I bought mine from a Belgium based website called farmaline but my order arrived in 3 days which is pretty speedy.
La roche-posay Serozinc is an aerosol type can. I spritz it on a cotton pad and apply, rather than spraying it on my face. Serozinc feels light and refreshing. It helps to clear up and reduce the redness of any blemishes, though I'm finding my skin is much more clearer since using this duo.
Since I've introduced this duo into my skincare routine, my skin is much more radiant, smoother and my pores are starting to look better. Two products I would repurchase without hesitation!

Nars Nouveau Monde Duo Eyeshadow

nars nouveau monde shadow duo - £25

Recently I delved into the world of Nars and purchased this shadow duo. I don't really know why its took me this long to make a Nars purchase, I guess its just a brand that's passed me by.
Nars Nouveau Monde is an eyeshadow duo containing a metallic lilac silver and olive gold shades. Its encased in a matte rubber compact - the one that attracts any kind of dirt which is very annoying when you try to keep your makeup as clean as possible.
Both shades feel soft to touch and apply smoothly. The pigmentation is good but slightly on the sheer side, as you might be able to tell from the swatch above. I wear these over primer but they're long lasting with little fading.
I really like both shades in this duo. They're not particularly shades I would have thought to put together but they work well in combination with each other. Nars eye shadows are on the pricey side but I have a wish list of a few other things already - tolede lipstick, radiant concealer and Lhasa shadow to name but a few!

What are your thoughts on Nars?

3. Giorgio Armani Si
Fronted by actress Cate Blanchett, Si is a woody, floral scent containing notes of rose, patchouli and amber and will be launched in September.

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream & Tango with Bronzing Stick

I mentioned in this post that I was recently asked to be NYX UK's blogger of the month for June. I was kindly gifted a few NYX products - you can see my first review here. Today I have the two more items to show you. First up is the Soft Matte Lip Cream in Buenos Aires - a soft orange toned coral.

NYX soft matte lip creams smell like cake (yum!) and feel silky when applied to the lips. Buenos Aires needs a few swipes to build up colour and its one of those products that's unforgiving on the lips - it clings to any dry patches so your lips have to be in really good condition beforehand. That said, the lip cream feels comfortable to wear leaving a soft matte finish. Buenos Aires is a gorgeous shade that I feel would especially look good on tanned skin. I've already got my eye on addis ababa - a bright fuchsia pink. For £5, they are worth the money, but like I said you do need to make sure your lips are in good condition before you apply.

The second product, is my personal favourite - Tango with Bronzing Stick in Merengue Flush.

Tango with bronzing Stix is described by NYX as a cream bronzer which highlights, sculpts and warms the complexion in a portable applicator. Merengue Flush is a rosy pink with gold shimmer. This is a shade that works as a blush on light skin tones and as a highlighter on darker skin. The tango with bronzing stix is housed in a twist up tube. You don't necessarily need to use a brush to apply as its really creamy. I apply it straight to my cheeks and blend with my finger.
Meregue flush gives the skin a beautiful 'lit from within' glow. It's very shimmery so its something I prefer to wear in the evening. I'm really impressed with the formulation - it stays put all day and doesn't look oily, just a lovely dewy glow. For £8, this is a beaute and and an ideal travel item too!

Wednesday Summer Wishlist

I haven't done a proper wishlist for a while but there are quite a few things I'm lusting after.

1. Havaianas - these are the comfiest flip flops ever!I've had my current pair for ages so I need to buy some new ones. I really like the lilac shade. They have some in Matalan for £10 which is a bargain but I'm not sure of the shade choices!

2. Primark Maxi Dress - I love that ASOS are stocking some Primark pieces. Not everyone has a primark near them and its handy if you need something the next day and cant get to the shops! I really love this maxi dress, I cant believe its only a tenner! Although if I buy it I will need to alter the length as maxi dresses swamp me because I'm fairly short.

3. St Tropez Instant Wash Off Glow Body - I think this type of faux tan is such a good idea if you haven't had time to apply a regular fake tan or to add an extra glow to your body. St Tropez are such a good quality brand and this product isn't too pricey!

4. Maybelline Forever Strong Polish 'Mint for life' - I've seen a few blog posts on these polishes. Mint for life looks so pretty and these are really affordable too.

5. Estee Lauder Pure Colour Roller Gloss - a sheer gloss from the bronze goddess 2013 collection. I'll admit I'm a sucker for packaging and I like the gloss is in a rollerball - it reminds me of something I would have used when I was younger.

6. TIGI catwalk session series salt spray - I definitely need more texture to my hair. My hair is so flat and lifeless, I think a salt spray would be a good product to create beachy waves. As its matt, it would be great for my oily roots too.

Has anyone tried any of these?

Cirque du Soleil Alegria

One of the things on my to-do list this year is to go and see a show in London. I've never been to London, so its definitely a place I want to go and visit. One show I would like to see is by cirque du soleil who mix circus arts with street entertainment - the costumes look amazing, especially the makeup, which reminds me of illamasqua.
Their production of Alegria comes to the UK from July 18th - 21st at the O2 arena.

Alegria meaning happiness, joy and jubilation in Spanish features a cast of 55 performers and musicians, showcasing an amazing display of acrobatics.

"Power and the handing down of power over time, the evolution from ancient monarchies to modern democracies, old age, youth - it is against this backdrop that the characters of Alegría play out their lives. Kings' fools, minstrels, beggars, old aristocrats and children make up its universe, along with the clowns, who alone are able to resist the passing of time and the social transformations that accompany it."

cirque du soleil tickets are onsale now.

5 Minute Face: Minimal Makeup!

Today I thought I'd give a mention to some of my tried and tested products that I use when I'm in a super rush. If I oversleep or generally don't have much time to get ready I know I can use these, apply them really quickly knowing I'm not going to look a total mess - trust me I've been there!

The key for me is to use products that don't require a lot of work to apply. A base such as Revlon Nearly Naked foundation, blends really easily and can be applied with fingers as its very light. For any blemishes or under the eye, I use Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer, which doesn't need a huge introduction as its pretty hyped up amongst the beauty blogging world. I like to use a concealer brush to apply and buff into the skin but its not a heavy consistency so I find it doesn't require a lot of work to look natural. I always use powder to set my makeup and to control my oily t-zone. Rimmel Stay Matte is my current go to powder - it helps my makeup to last longer, doesn't look cakey and is really cheap to buy.

For my eyebrows, I prefer powder but if I'm in a rush, I'll use Maybelline Master Shape Brow Pencil in soft brown. Its a wax formula so its very creamy and not only fills in the brow but keeps them in shape. There is a brush at the other end of the pencil so if you make a mistake you can just brush it out. My favourite mascara at the moment is Laura Mercier Lash Building Volume Mascara as it looks really natural and doesn't require many coats to lengthen and add volume. I love the it lasts all day without smudging or flaking so its definitely worth splashing out on in my eyes.

I always need a bit of blush as I'm so pale and look ill without a bit of colour on my cheeks. Bourjois Blush in Healthy Mix is a shade that flatter my skin tone and makes my complexion look better. I don't think the pigmentation all that. You need to scrape the top of the blush in order to get better pigmentation which is such a faff but I can get away with applying it lightly and sweeping it over my cheeks to build up a bit of colour.

For a natural daytime look, I prefer a bit of gloss on my lips, such as Loreal Glamshine Stain Splash. It adds a hint of colour and is on the watery side so it feels hydrating and comfortable to wear.

I can usually apply my natural makeup in around five minutes but if I have slightly more time, I will add a cream shadow, such as a MAC paint pot or Benefit creaseless cream to give a wash of colour over the lids. These two products usually last all day too but if I need a primer then I'm really liking Rimmel's shadow primer.

Sleek Sweet Cheeks Blush Trio

Sleek Sweet Cheeks Blush Trio - £9.99

I am a huge blusher addict! I'm so pale that I really rely on a blusher to add some healthy colour to my complexion.
When I heard about the Sleek Sweet Cheeks blush palette it went straight to the top of my wishlist - a cream blush and two powder blushes for £9.99 is a steal, not to mention that I think Sleek Blushes are the one of the best formulations on the high street.
Sweet Cheeks blush trio features three shades with cute names; cupcake - a cream blue toned pink, dollymix - a matte lilac pink and candyfloss - a shimmer hot pink.
When I opened this palette for the first time, I was shocked by how bright the shades were and thought there was no way I would be able to pull them off. As they are incredibly pigmented I have to apply these carefully so I don't look like a clown. The texture of the powder blushes is really soft. Dollymix is ever so slightly powdery but its still easy to work with. As they are soft I find they blend well. I apply with a smallish brush - I quite like the contour brush from the really techniques core collection and buff in with another clean brush to make sure it look natural. With the cream blush cupcake, the formula is perfect!it doesn't feel oily or too dry. It blends really well and lasts throughout the day.

Swatches

cupcake / dollymix / candyfloss

My favourite shade from these is cupcake, just because I'm really into cream blushes as the moment and this one makes my skin look healthy without the oil factor. The shimmer is candyfloss barely shows on my skin as I apply it so lightly but I think it would look beautiful on dark skin tones. I'm so-so about dollymix as I'm not sure lilac tones are the most flattering for my skin tone. Overall, though the sweet cheeks palette is a great value for money buy and its got me hoping that Sleek release more cream blushes in the future!

Lets not panic........GFC!

A cute kitty makes everyone feel better!

Earlier this year google announced the retirement of google reader - a platform where you can read blogs via their rss feed in July 2013.
Now google reader and google friend connect are two completely different things - GFC is STAYING for now anyway.  Google friend connect is the widget where people click to subscribe to your blog.
That's not to say it wont be removed in the future. Google friend connect has already been discontinued for blogs using a none blogger platform  - though I know some wordpress users have managed to get it back on. Also, google seem to be pushing users into using google plus. I've signed up but to be honest, I'm still trying to get my head around the whole thing.
Their are alternatives to using gfc - bloglovin seems to be the way forward for many. Its a pretty good platform and I like that you can download an app for iphone/android to read blogs on the go. The only thing I'm not keen on is the top blogs section as I feel it overlooks new bloggers. However there isn't really an alternative as yet - there is she said beauty but that's not much of an option for none beauty bloggers.

There has been no announcement that GFC is closing and I'm pretty sure that if it does go eventually users will be given several months notice. I think there has been a bit of miscommunication about the whole thing - google should have been clearer about google reader and gfc but the main thing is not to worry!

Ebay Beauty Bargains - Summer Holiday Edition!

1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7

As its almost approaching summer holiday season, I've been searching for a few items that will help me get into holiday prep mode - I don't have a holiday booked yet but if I don't get to go on holiday I'm hoping for at least a few day trips!I currently have more than a few items in my Ebay wishlist, some of them are so cheap!

1. Pedicure Pod - I already have a ped egg which are so good for getting rid of dry skin on your feet but its always good to have a back up plus this one is cheap as chips! I try to keep on top of keeping my toes ad feet soft and moisturised in summer as I wear sandals a lot.

2. Travel Perfume Atomiser - These are so handy for travelling especially if you want to pack light. Its so much easier to take a mini perfume spray than a massive bottle of your favourite scent.

3. Heart Sunglasses - How cute are these!I know this style were popular a few years ago but they're a sweet buy for 99p.

4. Clear bottles - I'm going to buy a few of these as they're really good for putting a refreshing facial mist in or your favourite toner or cleanser, rather than taking massive bottles on holiday.

5. Cat Cosmetics bag/purse - I love these cases, I think I might buy one to use as a pencil case or for putting a few bits of makeup in for everyday use.

6. Soap & Glory The Firminator Body Contouring Gel - I'm not sure if this has been discontinued or reformulated but I cant see it on the boots website. Nevertheless this has some great reviews online and its a good price for a body firming gel. I'm always on a mission to tone up so this might help (I hope).

7. Bamboo Brush Set - I've mentioned these brushes before as they are really good value. I already have several of these bamboo brushes and they're really soft and wash well. This set is ideal for taking on holiday as it has everything you need.

Have you spotted any ebay bargains recently?

Things I've learnt from blogging!

So this is a bit different from what I usually post but change is good, right? I've been blogging for well over a year now and I've learnt quite a few things during that time. I'm quite a changeable person, I tend to get bored very easily (you might be able to tell that from my ever changing blog design haha) so the fact that I'm still blogging after all this time is a huge achievement for me. Blogging has definitely boosted my confidence - I guess its easier when you're sat behind your computer & this is probably why I wont attempt youtube.

When it comes to blogging, I think of myself as a small fish in a very big pond. Its easy to compare yourself to other bloggers, especially those considered 'bigger bloggers' & wonder if your blogging in the right way, if what you're writing about is any good, if your photographs look ok etc. I think when it comes to blogging, you should write about what YOU want to write about. At the end of the day, its your personal space and you should do what makes you happy. When I first started this blog, I didn't really know what direction I wanted to go, although I consider it primarily a 'beauty' blog, I've realised its ok to think outside the box and to write about other topics, such as fashion or more personal posts.

Whether its in real life or online, you can never please everyone. There is always going to be someone who doesn't like you or your blog, which is completely ok. It would be a really boring world if we all liked the same thing and never had opinions. I used to be really self conscious in my teens, but I've finally learnt to let it go, heck if I worried about what everyone thought about me I would never get out of bed in the morning. Life is too short, if there does come a point when I begin to hate blogging then I'll stop. Right now I love blogging. I have found something I'm really passionate about and I have a genuine love for.

Bloggers are a huge community - Beauty bloggers in particular. I totally believe that anyone can be part of it, I'm lucky to have spoken to some truly lovely people through blogging and have found some amazing blogs to read. Moral of the story is that blogging is an incredible thing - you never know what might come of it or who you might speak to/meet!

*I could write a lot more but I'll start to ramble and end up writing an essay so I'll leave it there for now*

Thanks for reading

Current skin care saviour : Embryolisse lait creme concentre!

I've been spending more money on skincare lately and less on cosmetics. Right now I'm full of a cold, the skin around my nose is really dry from constantly blowing my nose but my current obsession aka embryolisse lait creme concentre is really helping.
I love french skincare. Lait creme concentre is a moisturiser often used backstage at fashion shows - it can be used as your everyday moisturiser, as a primer or to remove makeup. Personally I like to use this as my daily moisturiser as its really nourishing, soothing and hydrating. I was a little wary at first as having oily skin I don't like to use skincare that has a heavy consistency. However, lait creme concentrate is lightweight, no greasy and hydrates without making my skin any oilier. It sinks in fairly quickly, I cant really detect any noticeable scent which is good! nothing worse than heavy scented skincare that lingers.
I can see why this is a hugely raved about moisturiser and considered a 'cult product' - it works really well and isn't too expensive. I think this would suit all skin types, especially dry or sensitive skin. This is one item I will repurchase!

*I bought mine from Ebay but its available from cult beauty & a few other places online*

Orly Mani Mini Trio: Neons

Orly Mani Mini Trio: Neons*

Neons are my go to shade for summer. There's something about bright colours that just make me feel happy.  Orly mani mini trio contains three neon shades .

Beach cruiser - matte neon pink
Skinny dip - blue with a slight shimmer
Glow stick - yellow

The consistency of these were mixed. Beach cruiser needed two coats, applied slightly streaky on the first coat but dried evenly on the second. Skinny dip is really sheer and needs three coats for an even consistency. Glow stick, now this is what I'm talking about!ultra highlighter neon yellow and only needs one coat. Possibly the brightest yellow I've ever seen!
Although this set is a little mixed in terms of quality, I like miniatures sets like this as they generally work out cheaper if you're interested in more than one shade and I prefer smaller bottles as I've never used up a normal sized polish yet. This is a nice set for summer, I cant see it online as yet (this is a pr sample from Look Fantastic/HQ hair) but I've seen the polishes available separately. Beach cruiser and Glow stick are awesome shades for summer.

Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque

At the moment I'm becoming a little obsessed with skincare. I love using face masks - having quite oily skin I like to use clay/mud based masks to draw out impurities. I was using the Liz Earle deep cleansing mask but recently ran out. I didn't find it particularly effective to be honest, just ok so I thought I'd look for something else.
The Queen Helene mint julep mask has been on my radar for a while. I've seen several good reviews and its affordable. This is quite a thick green clay mask with a refreshing slight minty scent. When applied to the skin it feels slightly tingly and cool at first before it hardens after a few minutes. After 15 minutes, you rinse with water and pat the skin dry.
I've used this mask a few times - I don't like to use it too much as I feel it may dry the skin out if used more than once/twice a week and I'm impressed with the results so far. The mask aims to rinse away blackheads, which I'm not too sure about. I think deep rooted blackheads will need extracting rather than using a mask but it works well on clearing up excess oil, leaving less congested pores and overall clearer skin. I have a few open pores around my nose and these look more refined and tighter. For dryer skin, this mask would be maybe too harsh but for normal/oily skins its a great buy! I got mine from ebay but its available at quite a few places online.

NYX Betty Black Gel Liner/Smudger and Rust Eyeshadow

Recently I was asked by NYX UK if I would like to be their blogger of the month for June. Naturally I said yes! (I'm still in awe & feel very grateful) and received four products which I'm splitting into a two part review. First up are the gel liner/smudger in betty (black) and eyeshadow in rust.

The gel liner/smudger in Betty* is a true black shade. It comes boxed in a little glass pot with a screw top lid and can be used a regular liner or smudged out for a sexy smokey eye look. I prefer gel liners to pencils/pens as I find them easier to apply and blend. Betty has a great consistency - its creamy enough to apply without dragging on the eyelid. I apply gel liner with a pointed liner brush as it seems to work better for me, I don't always have the steadiest hand but this method is literary foolproof. The NYX liner stays put all day until I remove it  - it does dry fairly quickly to if you're smudging it out you do need to work quite quickly but as a regular liner its perfect as you can create a perfect neat line without worrying about it looking messy. For £8, I do think its as good as higher end brands and far better than other high street/drug store gel liners I've tried. There are five shades - I'm going to order the teal version (danielle) as it looks really pretty.

The single eyeshadow in Rust* is a frosty brick red/wine shade that is really pigmented and soft to touch. I've  heard a few people say that this might be a good dupe for MAC cranberry but I think rust may have less pink tones. NYX Rust is easy to blend and long wearing - I've been wearing this with neutral shadows and it looks stunning. I like to use it in the inner corner or in the outer crease and it really flatters my brown eyes and makes them look warmer. Single eyeshadows are just £4.50 from NYX, which I think this shade is definitely worth. There is a huge range of shadows and various finishes so its worth googling for swatches but I would definitely recommend Rust, especially if you don't own anything similar.

Have you tried any NYX products?

MAC Veluxe Pearlfusion Shadow Collection 2013

Source

*Previously thought to be called Doublelux*

It’s eye shadow innovation like you’ve never seen before. A versatile powder that brings out the pigment’s pure and true color. The result is a glamorous, creamy and lightweight hybrid offering two distinctive effects: applied wet for a super saturation of color that glistens with metallic brilliance, or dry for sheer coverage with a soft, sparkling finish. Rave Review: L'Occitane Almond Shower Oil & Milk Veil

Now the weather is warming up and I'm bareing more skin, I'm introducing more bodycare products into my beauty routine. Over the past few days I've been using the L'Occitane almond shower oil and milk veil - I use the shower oil every day when I shower and the milk veil twice a day in the morning and evening.
I've never used a shower oil before as I usually stick to shower gel. The L'Occitane shower oil is enriched with almond oil. The oil feels really rich and turns milky when it comes into contact with water. It doesn't really foam up so it doesn't rinse as easily as your average shower gel but it leaves the skin feeling baby soft - more so than any shower product I've used before. The milk veil is easy to dispense in a pump bottle and feels lightweight on the skin. It sinks in really quickly and feels really hydrating. The lotion has a subtle silver shimmer running through it, which when applied reflects in the light.
Both products have a light almond scent - I love the smell as its delicate yet still yummy!
Event though I've only been using these a few days I can already see a difference in the texture of my skin. It looks more radiant and feels incredibly soft and smooth, even my elbows which are normally quite dry now feel so much smoother. Usually with skin or body care products I like to test for a least a week before I review them but with these you can see a difference straight away. A*

Have you tried any L'Occitane products or have any recommendations - I'm eager to try more!

1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7

Today I'm back with another round up of some brilliant bargains I've discovered on Ebay - I think my favourites are the tangle teezer dupe and brush bag!
I love searching for dupes, steals and all round fab buys! If there's anything you would like me to look for - maybe a cheaper version of a product, let me know and I'll see what I can track down!

Primark Summer 2013

Last time I visited Primark they had some really nice things and it looks like there are still lots of great things on their way for Summer. I really do think Primark are constantly upping their game - the bikinis look gorgeous!
