Garnier Pure Active Micellar Water Vs Garnier Original Micellar Cleansing Water

Micellar waters are something I religiously use to remove my makeup. The Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water is my usual go to as it removes makeup really well, its cheap to buy and easy to get hold of. During a recent shopping trip, I spotted a newer version - the Garnier Pure Active Micellar Water aimed at oily/combination and sensitive skin types.

There isnt a massive difference between the two products. Both are 400ml bottles, however the new pure active version has a blue toned bottle rather than clear which makes it easy to know which is which. The only difference between the two in formulation is that pure active micellar water contains alcohol.

Having tested both out, I'd say that the pure active version soaks into the skin better and leaves it feeling completely matte. In terms of makeup removal, both versions remove makeup effectively. If I had to choose between the two, I'd go for the original version which is alcohol free. As this is a product that I use regularly, I prefer to avoid alcohol as it can be drying on the skin. However, if you have oily skin and using skincare products containing alcohol isnt a concern for you then you'll likely prefer the newer version.

Have you tried any Garnier micellar cleansing waters?

  2. Great review, I have oily skin but find that the cleansing water works wonders despite this.
Like you said, I also don't tend to go for products which contain alcohol but it might be worth the buy to see!

  3. I feel bad to admit that I've not yet tried any of the micellar waters yet. It seems everyone is getting on so well with them I really should keep an eye out on my next shopping trip.
I do have quite combination skin but I think I'd go for the one without alcohol too, just to save on drying out the dry bits anymore than they already are :p

  5. I haven't tried the Garnier Micellar Waters, but I have tried others. I'm really interested in trying one of the Garnier ones- I think I might opt for the original. Are they safe to use around the eyes?

  11. This post is so useful. I've been after an alternative to Bioderma for ages as my stash is running out and it's much more expensive here than in France! I have really dry skin so it's good to know that the alcohol free one would be best for my skin type, and that theres not much difference in performance when taking off make up. Thank you!

  12. Really interesting post - I had no idea there were two types! I'd be interested to try the Pure Active version, or sample it at least just to see how my skin got on with the alcohol. I do have oily skin but I find face wipes with alcohol no good for it so I'd have to test this out and see if it was similar or not.
Thanks for alerting me to it!

  23. I love the original, micellar waters are such a staple in my skincare routine, I will probably pick this up next time I am in Boots as I am interested to see if there is a noticeable difference between the two.
